Caritas Ambrosiana: appeal for the Philippines

The Archbishop of Milan, Cardinal Angelo Scola expresses deep sorrow for Philippines(Filipino) christian community in Milan struck by the tragedy happened in their country. “ I pray – together with my Diocese – for them all, for the Archbishop of Manila Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle and for the Philippines. I pray especially for the victims and the survivors who have to face dramatic situations. I would like to ask to the christian communities in Milan to be generous with prayers and concrete help following Caritas Ambrosiana instructions. A first aid has already been sent.”

Caritas Manila is working with the help of 250 volunteers to provide essential food supplies (especially rice, canned goods, noodles, pockets of protein rich manna rice) to Leyte families. They will provide 20.000 food packages in 9 different areas in the next weeks.

In coordination with Caritas network tarpaulins and tents have been procured for 18.000 families evacuated from Cebu City. Caritas Manila plans to help 100.000 families (500.000 people) providing shelters support, livelihoods, vital living supplies and clean water and sanitation.
Caritas Manila is also coordinating local communities in  removing rubbles from the affected areas (cash for work programme).
